Introduction
Newspaper Content Analysis
Newspapers usually have many topics. They usually include political events, crime, business, sports,
and opinions. Many also include weather news. Newspapers use photographs to illustrate stories;
and often include comics and other entertainment, such as crosswords and horoscopes. Many have
opinion sections.

We all have seen newspapers, but how many of us regularly read the newspaper or headlines for the
day? If you are not a regular reader of newspapers/ news, let us analyse the sections today with this
short/simple activity.
Expected Outcomes
Students will
1. Understand different sections and type of content newspapers generally cover.
2. Comprehend the content of different type of news
3. Be able to differentiate between different types of news and other sections of the
newspaper.
Note to the Facilitator (Desh Apnayen ACTIZEN Club President/Vice President)
Material required A4 size sheets (Coloured), Scissors, newspapers, glue, colour pens
Steps for the activity
1. Divide the class into groups of 3-4 students.
2. Ask them in advance to bring any newspaper that they get at home.
3. Each group will explore different sections of the newspaper and make a magazine by using
cuttings of different types of news, opinions, articles, photos, advertisements, local, national
and international news, sports news etc.
4. Display the Photo Magazines on the School Display Board’/’Desh Apnayen Wall’/Notice

Closing and Pre-preparation for Week 3
1. Vice President Discuss the next Week plan (Quiz on Article 370) with DAAC members and
finalise date and agenda. Take prior permissions for the activity and circulate the agenda.
2. Secretary - Collect the reflection sheets and photo magazines and give responsibility to
members to display on rotational basis on Desh Apnayen display board/wall or other
prominent area in school, click photographs of the activity and share with your Desh
Apnayen teacher and request him/her to share the same with Desh Apnayen.
3. Treasurer Take Print outs of reading material and distribute members to study. Make
groups and ask each group to select the participants for Quiz (2-3 only) and get ready for the
next activity.
